Simple Primary Talk: Prayer

Pray every day.

Think hard of what to say.

We fold our arms, we bow our heads,

We stay reverent when the prayer is said.

We thank Heavenly Father for the blessings He's brought.

We ask Him to help us do the things He has taught.

And then end our prayer with an amen,

So we can go on, happy again.

I kneel right down to say my prayer

And offer up my every care.

But first I thank for all I hold

And do not stop till each is told:

My eyes, my hands, my walking feet;

The friends I always love to greet;

My home and loving family;

Each of my blessings plain to see!

And then I pray for what I need:

For intellect to help me read;

For kind, sweet words among my friends;

For proper health and rain God sends.

I kneel right down to say my prayer

And realize that God is there.

He listens to my every word,

And this I know: my prayer is heard!

Sometimes when I read my scriptures, I wish I could have lived long ago. People back then had amazing adventures! As I live the gospel, maybe I’ll have my own adventures!

If I had lived in Noah’s time, I could have helped take care of the animals on the ark.

Or maybe I would have crossed the Red Sea on dry ground with Moses and the Israelites.

I would have cheered to see Daniel coming safely out of the lions’ den.

If I had been in Lehi’s family, I could have helped Nephi build the boat so that we could sail to the promised land.

If I had been a Nephite, I could have helped Captain Moroni wave the title of liberty.

If I had lived in Jesus’s time, I could have stood near Him to hear His teachings.

It’s time to peek inside our box of ornaments to see

Which ones we’ll choose to decorate our Christmas story tree.

Let’s hang a cane of peppermint upon the nearest bough

To tell of shepherds watching lambs, as Jesus watches now.

 

The angel on the highest branch still sings the joyful song

Of peace on earth, goodwill to men, of pardon for our wrongs.

We’ll set a star of silver here among the twinkling lights,

Like one that shone on Bethlehem that sacred, starry night.

 

And there beneath the tree we’ll place a package wrapped in red,

Reminding of our Lord’s great gifts—His love, the blood He shed.

Our Christmas tree is ever green; its needles never fall.

My Mother's Hands

I’m thankful for my mother’s hands, which help me every day.

With her hands she shows me how to work and how to play.

It seems that when I need some help, her hands are always there

To tie my shoes, or make my lunch, or comb my messy hair.

Her hands know how to fix my bike and how to make my bed,

And how to find a scripture verse to ease my worried head.

 

I want my hands, like Mother’s, to serve others every day.

I want my hands to know, like hers, how to work and play.

I know that when she needs some help, my hands can help her too.

Because she’s taught me well, they know exactly what to do.

I’ll thank my mother for her hands and hug her really tight

And promise her to use my hands to always do what’s right.

The Sacrament

And ponder all the things Christ did
To help me through each day.
I'll listen to the Spirit's voice;

When I feel the Holy Ghost, I feel good inside.
I want to do what Jesus did and always choose the right.
The Spirit helps me know what I should and shouldn't do,
And can help me understand that the Book of Mormon is true.
The Holy Ghost can comfort me when I am feeling sad,
And when I feel the peace He brings it helps me to feel glad.
I love my Heavenly Father and Jesus Christ, His Son.
The Holy Ghost can help me to obey and follow Them.

My prayer taught me Joseph's answer was true.

I love to see the prophet.
He always seems to be
So unafraid and happy,
A source of strength for me.
I love to hear the prophet
Reveal both truth and light.

That what he says is right.

He shows me by example

I know the prophet loves me.
He wants me to be good
So I can live the gospel
As Jesus says we should.

The truths the prophet teaches
Will help me to obey

Through study and through prayer,

I know a simple recipe that anyone can make.
It isn’t for an apple pie; it isn’t for a cake.
You need not stir in sugar. Don’t add a pinch of salt.
It isn’t for a cookie. It isn’t for a malt.
It comes from Heavenly Father, who watches from above.
You start with just your family; add kindness, faith, and love.
Throw in some joy and laughter, and of course a cup of care.
Don’t forget to add the sharing and a generous dose of prayer.
Make sure you stir it really well, so everyone can see
You’ve made a happy, loving home from this simple recipe.
